To Mervas is the story of her journey, one that doesn't arrive at any simple or easy conclusion. Much of the latter half of the book is ambiguous, and the reader can arrive at more than one conclusion about Marta. The value of this story, however, is clear: people are flawed, damaged, and searching/5(3).

To Mervas is a heart-breakingly beautiful look into a broken woman and her lost life. Marta suffered a mental break during which something unspeakable happens (which I won't state because it is carefully laid out and selectively alluded to until it's revelation) and she spends the rest of her life in such a state of self-hatred that it is difficult for the To Mervas book to handle/5.

To Mervas is a turbulent journey through the wilderness of memory, domestic violence, and the vast gulf between lost lovers. After years of insulating herself from humanity in the wake of her disabled son’s death, Marta is jolted out of exile when a cryptic note arrives from Mervas, a ghost town deep in Sweden’s desolate northern wilds.

Victoria Häggblom is a writer and a 4/5(5). To Mervas: a novel. [Elisabeth Rynell; Victoria Häggblom] -- Out of the blue, Marta receives a troubling note from an ex-lover, Kosti, whom she has tried to forget for more than 20 years and who now inexplicably summons her to Mervas, an all but abandoned.

The novel—which narrates a recluse’s impossible journey to find the great love of her life, who sends her an enigmatic letter after decades of absence—is almost physically depressing: After a few pages, the weight would become too much, forcing me to put the book aside for days.

“To Mervas,” is her first book translated into English. It was shortlisted for Sweden’s August Prize. To describe Rynell’s writing is to call it what it is: emotional.

“To Mervas,” deals with some extreme emotions; and as the reader, we mine and make our way through the troubled landscape of Marta’s very extreme inner : M. Mary.

Mervas is a former mining town in Norrland – Rynell territory. Marta sells up and goes in search not so much of Kosti but of herself. Through miles of empty wilderness she finally comes to a homestead where Arnold and Lilldocka, two self-contained pensioners, show her love and kindness.

They also show her the way to Mervas, where she finds Kosti. To Mervas is a turbulent journey through the wilderness of memory, domestic violence, and the vast gulf between lost lovers. After years of insulating herself from humanity in the wake of her disabled son's death, Marta is jolted out of exile when a cryptic note arrives from Mervas, a ghost town deep in Sweden's desolate northern wilds/5(77).

We haven't found any reviews in the usual places. Bibliographic information. 6. The book must offer insights on how aging can affect a human being. This doesn't mean the book has to have a happy ending, just a realistic one.

7. The book may not be more than half flashback. A story in which an old person merely recounts the story of his or her younger self is not really OA lit. 8.PAUL Mervas SA. 73 likes.
